2. Gating or Attaching Sprues

A network of wax rods called “sprues”is attached to the wax pattern. Like the pattern itself, these will later become cavities in a shell.


Their purpose is to create passageways through the shell by which molten bronze can reach the cavity of the sculpture and through which displaced air can escape.
